2. How does Botox (tm) work in cosmetic procedures?
Botox (tm) blocks impulses from the nerve to the muscle. It relaxes the muscle as it contracts. After the treatment the overlying skin remains smooth and unwrinkled, while the untreated facial muscle contracts in a normal fashion. Botox (tm) injections have been safely and effectively used for over twenty years for many other reasons. For cosmetic purposes Botox (tm) is injected into several locations on the face using tiny micro needles. No sedation or local anesthetic is required, and normal activities can be resumed. The effects of Botox (tm) can be seen in approximately two weeks leaving a more youthful and pleasant appearance that lasts 4-6 months.
