Common Questions on:

Hyper Pigmentation of the Skin
Also see: BOTOX® Cosmetic

Hyper-pigmentation is usually a harmless condition in which patches of skin become darker in color.  This is due to an excess of deposits of Melanin, the dark pigment that produces normal skin color.  There are different types: 1. age spots (also called liver spots) usually found on the face and hands, 2. Melasma or Chloasma (larger than age spots) most often due to hormonal changes, 3. Skin diseases such as acne, skin neglect or injuries to the skin, 4. Freckles can appear anywhere and are inherited.  All of the above areas can become darker when exposed to the sun.  Medical treatment is available and usually successful.

Facial Peels

Peels are based on the application of special substances, usually acidic.  The need determines the strength your doctor would prescribe.  Our skin has cycles of gradual renewal. With the application of these substances, the process of eliminating dead cells can be quicker, making way for new soft, subtle, textured skin.   Over the counter, cosmetic type peels are good for a one-time use.  In order to provide a longer lasting effect, a medical peel, which is stronger, is best utilizing a series of applications.  A peel is used to combat weathered, sun damaged skin, most wrinkles, uneven pigmentation, dry skin, acne, and large pores.  Most crèmes or remedies that soften your skin do this because of the emollients however, once you wash your face, the crème is lost and also the effect.
