Dermabrasion
It is the technique where the skin gets sanded. It is used to treat severe acne scars and other skin conditions. Today, it has been replaced by the laser or much more benign method called microdermabrasion. In microdermabrasions, the skin is prepared for two weeks with special chemicals before receiving a series of weekly or bi-weekly treatments. There is minimal discomfort and the patient can go back to work the same day. The skin begins to feel supple and soft after the first treatment. Harmless micro crystals are delivered and simultaneously removed with the skin’s impurities. There are two major categories of microdermabrasions: commercial and medical. The commercial type is available in salons and the medical grade of microdermabrasion is only done by physicians. Medical microdermabrasion is more effective and longer lasting since the skin is treated at a deeper layer. This type of treatment can help fine lines, wrinkles, sun damaged skin, superficial age spots, acne, black heads and even stretch marks.
Acne
Acne is a disorder of the sebaceous glands that results in plugged pores and outbreaks of lesions. It is one of the most common skin diseases. If your daughter/son has a mild case of acne, some of the over-the-counter remedies can be effective but more severe cases need medical attention. Usually, prescription medications and topical products bring the acne under control. However, medical skin peels, microdermabrasions and new technology utilizing the healing power of light and heat may be more effective.
